The best push up routine is one that you will do. Make it a habit. I read on another blog about a simple routine from a military guy from WW2. Every morning he would do 3 sets of push-ups to exhaustion. The first set he would do right after he woke up. He would then use the john and do a second set. After the second set he would brush his teeth and do the 3rd set then hit the shower. Let’s recap
- Wakeup and do 1 set of push ups to exhaustion
- Use the restroom then do another set of push ups to exhaustion.
- Brush your teeth and do a final set to exhaustion
Each day try to beat your previous day. I guarantee this routine will work if you do it. The key for any fitness regime is to find one that you will do regularly. It is easier to make a daily habit then a 3x per week habit.
Today I started this routine and will try to keep it up for pretty much the rest of my life. It really is very simple. It doesn’t take a lot of time and it actually helps me wake up and gives me a reason to get out of bed when the alarm first goes off. I also plan to track how many push-ups I can do. My first set was 13 and my first goal is to be able to do 50 push-ups without stopping. I think the most I have ever done is around 30 or so.

Good advice. I was at a buddy's house Thanksgiving and his two boys were there (19 & 27) They bet each other how many push ups they could do. I stood up and said, I bet I can do more than both of you combined (I'm 50). The 19 yr old did 6 and his brother did 7. I stopped at 30 because I had already beaten them…
