Let me tell you about the book I finished on Friday. The book is about overcoming obstacles and never giving up. The author shares advice from about a dozen successful individuals and finds a few common themes.  The book started of good with some good insights and info but then it got a little repetitive and runs out of great advice. Let me summarize the book for you in a paragraph.

Summary

Never give up. If you are passionate about what you are doing and have faith in yourself just keep at it and don’t let failure make you quit. The process for achieving success requires you to first look inward to find what you are passionate about and what you are good at.  Figure out a way to combine the two, set a lofty goal and start moving toward your goal.  Don’t plan too much and always be on the look out for new opportunities. Most successful people admit things never turned out the way they planned.  Surround yourself with successful people.  Be ready to serve others.

Success Equation

((P+T)xAxA)+F

Passion combined with talent, multiplied by the right association and action plus a lot of faith. The book suggests keeping a journal and an exercise to discover your own success equation.  The first step is to list 10 things you are passionate about. I don’t get really passionate about any one thing but I have a wide range of interests.

  1. Learning
  2. Helping People
  3. Technology/Gadgets
  4. Music (mostly listening to it)
  5. Family
  6. My Religion
  7. Internet trends
  8. Cooking and Eating Food
  9. Ice Cream

So there are 9.  Now the book says I should have people who know me well help me narrow it down to one. That is where you come in.  If you know me.  What do you think I am passionate about?  Maybe it isn’t on this list?  Use the comments to help me narrow the list down.  Or maybe you have a suggestion of something I could be passionate about that I’ve never done?

Now I will list my few talents.  This will be much easier to narrow down.

  1. Problem Solving
  2. Math/Logic
  3. Is being super easy going a talent?
  4. Fast learner
  5. Can solve a rubik’s cube.
  6. Can cross one eye
  7. I can cook
  8. I can find jobs quickly
  9. Multitasking

I was supposed to come up with 10 each but let’s just say I did and narrowed it down to 9 already.  Now I need to narrow it down to one each.  Please tell me one thing I should remove from each list. In future posts I will continue the equation and find my purpose.
