At the end of February this year I decided to make a list of things that I wanted to do this year. I called it 13 Things To Do in 2013 . I wanted to come up with things that I really wanted to do. I wanted it to be fun but also challenging. One of the goals was to write a song and another was to make a music video for the song. In March I began to work on that song but the song was about Sandwiches and I was struggling to finish it. You can imagine a song about sandwiches would need to be silly so then I second guessed myself because it was silly and I stopped working on it for several months.
Fast forward now to September and I start to think about how 2013 is flying by. I had only accomplished about 4 of the 13 goals. One of the goals is to run a 10K and I hadn’t run in several weeks. So I decided to get out and go for a 2 mile jog. While I was running I was trying to think about what else was on my list and I remembered the sandwich song. It was a simple song really. I already had nearly half of it recorded but I didn’t have lyrics for the rest. While on the jog several ideas came to me and I also got several ideas for the video. The next step was to act. After the jog I got cleaned up and went to work.
Several sandwiches later I was on a setback for running because I would be carrying a few extra pounds but I was able to accomplish 2 of my goals in less than a week.
Is The Sandwich Song the best song ever? Of course not. It really isn’t anything special. The most important thing is that I did it. I learned something new. I pushed myself and I had fun. What is something you’ve been meaning to do but have never done? Don’t let fear of failure or looking silly stop you. I’m sure there are friends and family member who think my video was a waste of my time. They may or may not be right but what they think doesn’t matter.
