My Shaytember GoalsAlrighty folks! Most of you probably are aware of Shaycarl’s push to get everyone motivated. He has declared September 2012 as Shaytember or Shayloss September. Anyone who wants to can set 3 goals for the month and through video replies and comments everyone can stay accountable and share their progress.

I have been struggling to stay motivated for almost a year. Ever since Stubbaby was born I’ve been struggling to get enough sleep and it isn’t just the baby’s fault. I have about a dozen “side” projects that keep piling up. I like to say I’m busy but the truth is I procrastinate until everything builds up, I get stressed, pull a few “all nighters” in a row then crash. Then I repeat the cycle. The stress causes me to eat junk and I think I’m too busy to exercise. The honest truth is I’m too lazy and don’t want to get sweaty. If you get sweaty you have to take a shower and you have more laundry to do. It is just a huge inconvenience!

See! I’m a mess. I don’t like admitting it but it is all true. On the surface I like to make it look like I’m very productive. I’m pretty good at it. I’m also pretty good at getting results when I’m under pressure. I’ve been able to keep my stress cycle going for a long time. I want to stop that cycle and have a balanced life.

My Goals

  1. Lose 10 lbs.
  2. Run 3 miles in 27 minutes
  3. Read 4 books

My Progress

We’re almost half way through the month so here is where I am.

  1. Today I am down 4 lbs from the start.  I started the month with a little too much confidence. I convinced myself that I can lose 5 lbs in a week if I really try so I keep thinking that will be my backup plan if I am behind the last week of the month. This week will be very important to keep the goal in reach.
  2. Today I ran 2 miles in under 18 minutes.  Which means if I can maintain that pace form another mile I’m there.  The last two times I ran 3 miles I was over by about 40 seconds per mile.  I am doing a combination of endurance runs and speed runs.
  3. I’ve already read two books (The Power of Focus & Poke the Box). I am currently reading Rework.  The 4th book will be Delivering Happiness

I’m happy with where I am. I’m surprised how well I’m doing with reading.  I want to do some book reviews in the very near future. I’m disappointed with my eating habits. Every day is a challenge to control my boredom and stress eating. I am moving in the right direction and that is what matters. Goals are supposed to motivate you to progress. Keep setting goals and keep moving.

Enjoy a vlog and let me know what you plan to be for Halloween. You gotta start planning early. Stubz Jr is going to be Obi Wan Kenobi and Stubbette is going to be a Cabbage Patch Doll. Minnie wants to be everything. Maybe a cat maybe a “My Little Pony”.

Way to go with your goals! I feel like its too late to do this now that it is halfway through the month. Stupid busy life :p havent thought much about Halloween yet but I do need to start thinking about costumes and if we are going to host a party or not

I know the feeling Stacie. It’s never too late to set goals. Maybe make one goal for the next two weeks. We usually host a pumpkin carving contest but we might try something different this year.

I haven’t met my goal of exercising three times a week because I got a cold that drained me from the middle of ast week to this one, but I did finish the book I’d been reading here-and-there for several months, and I’ve read another book & started a new one since then (with all the down-time I had while sick), so I met those. I used to be the same way with procrastinating, so I make sure to have my kids start multi-day assignments on day 1 to really imprint that good habit into them.

I went through a cold too. Good job on the reading! I’ll have to work on teaching my kids to not procrastinate.
